Abdel-Rahman Nobi

Somebody has to solve the hard problems.
I’m glad it’s me.

Mechanical design and R&D engineer: 6+ years in product design, 7 in engineering. I design with precision and I finish what I start. I turn rough ideas into products that can be built, prove them with simulation and real-world testing, and automate the routine so every design comes out right. I lead from the front, learn fast and raise the level of every team I join. Hand me the hardest problem on the table, and I’ll deliver the product.

The engine behind every product

I don’t stop at the drawing. I design the part, prove it with simulation and testing, take it into production and support it on site, across mechanical design, product development, R&D and busway.

Medium-power busway: a new product line, concept to series production

I designed this product range myself, from first concept to series production: an aluminium-housed busway system, engineered to order, so every project gets the conductor its client specifies. Designed for manufacture and assembly, simulated in ANSYS, built to IEC 61439-1, IEC 61439-6 and UL 857, and made more cost-competitive by localising its materials in Egypt.

  • Housing: aluminium
  • Conductors: copper or aluminium, to each client’s specification (engineered to order)
  • Sourcing: materials localised in Egypt to bring the cost down
  • Thermal: conductor spacing and housing shape tuned to shed heat at full load, checked in ANSYS
  • Fit: tolerances set on the parts and bends so every section joins on site without forcing
  • Manufacturing: housing simplified to fewer parts and standard bends for faster production
  • Testing: joint designed for short-circuit forces and verified to IEC 61439-6 before series production

What I bring

Engineering that gets built, installed and proven

End-to-end ownership

From customer requirement to production release and site commissioning — and I’ve worked on the factory floor and the project site, not just the screen.

A validation mindset

Testing, failure analysis and redesign until it works. Defence R&D taught me how things fail; drop and IP testing taught me to prove they don’t.

Automation & leadership

I build tools like iLogic configurators that make design faster and consistent, and I review, sign off and mentor the engineers whose work goes to production.

Summary

I believe the best engineering is still ahead of us, and I intend to help build it.

My story began on a construction site in Luxor, where I learned how things get built. In a defence R&D unit I learned how things fail, and how to make sure they don’t. At a hardware start-up I learned to own a product from a blank page. And at Elsewedy Electric, one of the region’s largest electrical manufacturers, I learned to design at scale, against real deadlines, for projects the whole region can see.

Every step taught me the same lesson: no problem is too hard for an engineer who refuses to quit. So bring me your toughest challenge. Let’s build something great together.

Frequently asked questions

Every question is a feature in the tree. Expand one to see the solved result.

Who is Abdel-Rahman Nobi?

Abdel-Rahman Nobi is a Senior Mechanical Design and R&D Engineer in Cairo, Egypt. He turns open-ended engineering problems into products that can be built: 3D CAD design, simulation, prototyping and physical testing through to series production. He has 6+ years in mechanical product design and R&D and 7 years in engineering across power distribution, electronics, defence and water treatment, and was promoted from Design Engineer to Senior Design Engineer at Elsewedy Electric within 13 months.

What are Abdel-Rahman Nobi's core skills?

Mechanical design (sheet metal, plastics and injection-moulded parts, GD&T, DFM / DFA), product development from concept to series production, R&D with reliability testing and failure analysis, simulation in ANSYS and LS-DYNA, drop and IP testing, Autodesk Inventor iLogic design automation, and leading and mentoring engineering teams.

What product design and R&D experience does he have?

At Elsewedy Electric he designed a new medium-power busway product line himself, from concept to series production, with an aluminium housing and conductors engineered to each client’s order. At FemtoPay he took sealed electronic enclosures from concept to mass production, running the drop and IP tests himself. In the Egyptian Armed Forces he led the air-defence R&D team, with reliability testing, structural analysis and failure analysis.

Which major projects has he worked on?

He designed more than 6 km of busway for the sewage treatment plant at King Salman Park in Riyadh and more than 1.5 km for the Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi Phase 2 expansion, plus busway for Khazna Data Centers and the ECB New HQ.

Which CAD and simulation tools is he expert in?

His main, expert-level tool is Autodesk Inventor with iLogic automation, plus SolidWorks, CATIA V5, AutoCAD and Revit / BIM 360. For simulation he uses ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Explicit Dynamics and LS-DYNA. Drawings and BOMs are released through Oracle ERP / PLM.

Which codes and standards does he design to?

Busway and medium-power busway to IEC 61439-1 (general rules), IEC 61439-6 (busbar trunking systems) and UL 857 (busways). Cable bus and North American projects to NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code (NEC), including Article 368 (busways) and Article 370 (cable bus). Enclosures to IEC 60529 for IP ratings, and drawings with GD&T tolerancing.

What is iLogic design automation?

iLogic is Autodesk Inventor’s rule-based automation. Abdel-Rahman used it to build one master model for a whole product family that generates correct parts, assemblies and drawings from a few input parameters.

Is he open to new roles or relocation?

Yes. He is based in Cairo and open to full-time mechanical design and R&D roles, as well as consulting projects (busway design, product development, Inventor iLogic automation), in Europe and the GCC. The best contact is the message form on this page, or LinkedIn.
